We regularly test the SED’s ability to detect drone sound. However, this would not have been possible without the support of DronySIT, who provided us with their fleet of drones during January.
We are currently heading into the home stretch and you can expect to see an official version of SED for drone sound recognition soon.
Why did we decide to teach the SED detector to detect the sound of drones? Drones are increasingly being used to smuggle drugs and contraband into prisons.
Drones offer a number of advantages for smugglers. They are able to easily overcome various prison barriers and can carry larger quantities of contraband than traditional smuggling methods. Drones also make it possible to smuggle goods into hard-to-reach places in prisons that would otherwise be difficult to reach.
The SED detector will act as an additional measure and security feature to detect drones.
In response to this new threat, prisons are trying to implement various measures. These include the widespread use of detection technologies such as radar and motion tracking systems to identify and intercept unauthorised drones. Some prisons are also testing their own drones to monitor and protect facilities. However, these measures are often not enough for prisons.
Adding SED to existing prison security features will speed up the response of prison guards and ensure that drones are disposed of in a timely manner.
